Dennis Baetz has upgraded his shop, by hanging up some of his many neon signs.  And in the right side of the picture, you'll see Steve Rubin's hood.  Very nice.

In this month's issue:

Happy Halloween

A Message from the President

I hope all of you weathered Hurricane Rita without too much discomfort, injury or loss of property.  We can all be thankful the storm turned east of Galveston and spared us a direct hit.

The September Meeting was held at Hickory Hollow located in the Heights.  About twenty members enjoyed the excellent BBQ.

The CTOH Poker run was postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita and a new date for the event will be announced soon. As soon as we know the date, please plan on attending.  As soon as you know if you will be participating, let Marc Markel know so he can notify the restaurant of the number of patrons to expect.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the Christmas Party that will be held at Ellen’s Café in Old Town Spring on Saturday, December 3.

Diesel Bill McBride

October Meeting
The October meeting will be held on October 16 beginning at 1 PM at Central Texas BBQ located in the center of Pearland at 4110 Broadway.  The phone# is 281-485-9626.  Find them on 518 (Broadway) just west of 35, over the railroad tracks, and across from First Baptist Church.  You can get directions and view their menu at the following website.   http://www.centralbbq.com/    They suggest that we all park together in the large lot across the street, so we can show off our cars.  As usual, the eating begins at 1:00pm, and the meeting begins at 2:00pm.

The Spirit of Giving
As you most likely are aware, the TBird officers/board members voted to again donate a cash gift for Christmas to the children of Gordon Elem. School.  Additionally, if any member wishes, they may bring a gift for the children to our Christmas party and Al will be happy to deliver these gifts to the school as I believe he and Marilynn live close to the school.  I called the principal, Arlene Brenner, at 713 295 5276 and asked what the children needed.  She said that as last year's request of lice products, what the children need are basic necessities and suggested boys and girls sweat pants or outter slacks in any shade of blue in nylon, cotton or flannel.  These can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Target, Penney's or other stores and come in packages of size 6 to 8; size 10 to 12 or size 12 to 14.  All sizes are needed.  Tee or polo shirts are also needed in red or white.  Their uniforms are blue pants and red or white tops.  She mentioned pants with elastic was desired and hinted that blue jeans were not really as good as the flannel, nylon, etc.

Please bring these items to our Christmas party on December 3, or contact me if you have any questions.  Thank you.

State Legislative Caucus Unites Car-Loving Lawmakers

In its continuing efforts to promote and protect the auto hobby, SEMA and the SEMA Action Network (SAN) has partnered with state lawmakers from across the country in establishing the State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus. Formed this year, the Caucus is a bi-partisan group of state lawmakers whose common thread is a love and appreciation for automobiles. To date, over 75 state legislators from California to New York and points in between are involved in the Caucus.

SEMA is the Specialty Equipment Market Association, and is a car-industry watch-dog group.

Drive In Movie
Drake Hiller sends in the following report:

This might be something the Club would want to do.  A new drive -in theatre is being built out on 2920 about 3 miles west of Tomball towards Waller.  See the info at www.theshowboatdrivein.com.  We might want to watch this website to see when it opens and show up for the grand opening.  It might be fun to do and the mosquitoes probably will be gone by then.

Tail Lights
A blind man finds his way to a barstool and orders a drink.

After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?"  he bar immediately falls absolutely quiet.

In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things:

1 - The bartender is a blonde girl.
2 - The bouncer is a blonde girl.
3 - I'm a 6 feet tall, 180-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
4 - The woman sitting next to me is blonde and is a professional weightlifter.
5 - The lady to your right is a blonde and is a professional wrestler.
Now think about it seriously, Mister. Do you really wanna tell that joke?"

The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and declares, "Nah.......... Not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."
