It is with
mixed emotions that I even publish this picture from Bob Vickers.
He finally sold Ol Yeller, and all he has left of it are the
yellow dice, yellow smiley face, license plate and frame, and some
cold hard cash. As a club, we've gotten more mileage (abuse)
out of that car than anything, well, except for the Hooter's
fiasco. Just what will I write about now?

Stress
Reduction Technique:
A stress
reduction technique that really works (so I've been told).
Picture yourself near a mountain stream. Birds are softly
chirping in the cool mountain air. No one, but you, knows your
secret place. You are in total seclusion from the hectic place
called "the world". The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall
fills the air with burbling serenity. The water is crystal
clear, and you can easily make out the face of the person you're
holding under water......... |

Message from the President |
|
Just a reminder--officer nominations are approaching quickly.
If you want to serve your club, let us know. Dave
Barnes is heading up our nominations. The ballots will be mailed with the Holiday
party invitations in mid-November.
This weather has been outstanding. On Tuesday, Oct 15, we
had the privilege of driving the pediatric cancer patients at MD
Anderson at their kick off pep rally for the Children's Art
Project. This is our favorite event every year, and this
year, the format was changed due to all the construction in the
Medical Center area. Special thanks to Dave & Jenny
Barnes, Louise & Cleo Bickford, Bill Burt, Minny Martinez, and
Bob Vickers for driving their Birds and making a special day for
those kids.
Enjoy
life--drive that Bird every chance you get. Bring it to
the meeting this weekend. You'll be glad you did.
Until
next month, keep on Birding…

| Ford's
100th Anniversary Party and Rt. 66 Cruise |
|
It's
official. We are going to wrap our Rt. 66 cruise in with
our trip to Dearborn for Ford's anniversary. We've been
from Tulsa out to Holbrook, AZ. Next June, we'll head back
to Tulsa, get on Rt. 66, and take it to Chicago. From
Chicago, we'll head on over to Dearborn. Make plans to
attend. Rt. 66 in a T-Bird is a wonderful experience.
Our hotel of choice in the Dearborn/Detroit area is the Red Roof
Inn-Dearborn. Phone 313-278-9732 or reserve online
at www.redroof.com.
The dates for the anniversary party are June 12-16, 2003.
More Rt. 66 details will be forthcoming. It's about 500
miles from Houston to Tulsa, about 700 miles from Tulsa to
Chicago, and about 300 miles from Chicago over to Dearborn.
We're thinking about leaving Houston on Saturday, June 7, 2003,
for our big trip. Dennis Baetz is working on the details
even as we speak!

September
Meeting |
| The
September meeting was held on Sunday, Sept 15. We had a
small but energetic group. We gave an update on the
hurricane cruise, and quickly planned our cruise to Monaville, to
see the remote controlled airplane show and fly-in. Wow, was
it impressive. There is another show at Bomber Field in
April, and we'll definitely have to be there.

Parade--Flatonia |
I
was contacted by a lady from Flatonia who has invited us to
participate in CZHILISPIEL. This is an annual event consisting
of a parade, car show and a lot of small town cooking, eating,
drinking, crafts and whatever. We have been invited to carry
the parade marshal and lot of pretty girls (I get the girls).
Sounds like what we do best. I will turn this over to our main
man in Moulton and see what we can do. The event is Oct 26
& 27 we would need to be there at 10:00 on the morning of
the
27th.

Vickers
This
very simple note started a barrage of emails within the group
that can not be re-printed in a family newsletter. But I
kept them all, and they may appear elsewhere!!

Illinois Hobbyists Defeat Goofy
Operable Vehicle Removal Legislation
Illinois SEMA
Action Network clubs and contacts were able to defeat truly
"extraordinary" Illinois legislation (H.B. 3399) that would
have allowed county boards to declare certain operable
vehicles on private property a nuisance and order their
removal. Only vehicles registered as "historic" would have
been exempt. Under current Illinois law, only inoperable
vehicles can be targeted for removal.
Had H.B. 3399
passed, owners would have had only seven days to remove a
vehicle before facing stiff fines. If the owner could not
afford to move it, the vehicle could have been removed by the
local law enforcement agency.
SEMA and Illinois
hobbyists successfully argued that H.B. 3399 would grant
county boards subjective and unchecked authority to label
legally registered vehicles - including project vehicles - as
nuisances, based solely on their appearance. This would make
it increasingly difficult for hobbyists to work on collector
vehicles on private property and would be unfair to low-income
vehicle owners, many of whom depend on the low-cost
transportation that older, and naturally less pristine, cars
provide.
Without question,
H.B. 3399 was overreaching legislation that could have
trampled on the rights of Illinois vehicle collectors,
customizers, restorers, and shade-tree mechanics. SEMA would
like to highlight the efforts of the following Illinois SEMA
Action Network member clubs in defeating this legislation:
Northern Illinois Impala Club, Allante
Appreciation Group, Southern Illinois Street Machines,
Heartland Vintage Truck Club, Chicagoland Buick Club, Prairie
A's Antique Ford Club, Model A Ford Club of America-Salt Creek
Chapter.

A minister decided to do something a little different one Sunday
morning. He said "Today, in church, I am going to say a single
word and you are going to help me preach. Whatever single word I
say, I want you to sing whatever hymn that comes to your mind."
The pastor said, "Cross!".
Immediately the congregation started singing in unison, "The Old
Rugged Cross".
The pastor said "Grace!".
The congregation began to sing "Amazing Grace, How sweet the
sound."
The pastor said "Power!".
The congregation sang "There is Power in the Blood".
The Pastor said "Sex!" The
congregation fell into total silence. Everyone was in shock.
They all nervously began to look around at each other, afraid to
say anything. Then all of a sudden from way in the back of the
church a little 87 year old grandmother stood up and began to
sing "Precious Memories." |
