Just when you thought we
wouldn't have a picture with Bob Vickers in it, we show the Moulton
Jamboree Parade line up, and there's his car, second one over.
Note the beautiful white 56 in the foreground. |

Message from the President |
The July Meeting was held at Noah’s Ark Grill in Bacliff,
outside on the upstairs deck overlooking Galveston Bay. Twenty-seven members enjoyed the food,
view and camaraderie.
Marc Markel has agreed to coordinate the Poker run which is
scheduled for Saturday, October 1. Bill Perry and Bill McBride
will assist – we need more volunteers and especially for obtaining
the prizes and manning the stops. Marc requested suggestions
for our ending destination. Please give this some thought and
give Marc your suggestions at this Sunday’s meeting.
Bill McBride, along with numerous Vintage TBird club members,
participated in the Saturday, July 23, in the Vintage TBird Club
cruise to in Galveston to visit the Lone Star Flight Museum and had
a great lunch at Moody Gardens. The tour of the Lone
Star Flight Museum was conducted by a tour guide and was very
interesting. If you haven’t been to the Museum, you should get
down there for a visit.
On Sunday, July 31, we made the trip out to Moulton for the
Jamboree. Each year, we carry the pie judges. The parade
route was shorter this year, and it wasn't as hot as usual. It
was a great time.
The 50/50 drawing ($14 to the winner) was won by Dale Anderson.
The battery donated by Jerry Estes was won by Vena Hicks.
Geary Ashby and Cleo Bickford were the May and June Meeting lucky
winners of the Interstate Batteries so generously donated by
Jerry.
Jerry Estes has firmed up CTOH the Holiday Party at Ellen’s Café
in Old Town Spring on December 3, 2005.
May you have fair winds and following seas,

| July
Meeting |
The July meeting was held at the Noah's Ark Grill
in Bacliff on Sunday, July 17, 2005. Although it was a little
warm, we had a nice turnout, and picked up some members we don't get
to see very often. It was great to see Dale & Linda
Anderson. Thanks to all for making the trip.

| Moulton Jamboree |
I'm sad that the pie eating is over for another
year. The Moulton Jamboree and Pie Judging Contest is one of
my favorite events, second only to cruising Rt. 66 in my TBird with
the top down (the car's, not mine). This year, (my fourth to
judge pies and about the 9th to drive the judges), the parade and
pie eating contest were outstanding. I left Houston early
Sunday morning, and it was cool. I thought about running the
heater, but decided to store the coolness for later in the
day. Ol White ran fine, and I got to Dennis' house right as
they were leaving for the parade lineup. The route was
shortened this year, and we had just enough beads and candy to throw
to all spectators. Then the fun began. The judges are
secluded in the community center under heavily-armed guards, and we
eat pie. Lots of pie. There are 5 classes of pie
bakers--Students, Men, and Women- Red, White, and Blue. I
judged the Red Women. The first year, I judged the Student
division. It was interesting, to say the least. I
finally have enough seniority among judges to get the older women
pie bakers. There were about 30 pies in our division.
Two of them were outstanding-a fresh strawberry pie and another
fresh berry cream pie. We had two that were awful, and one had
a hair in it. However, it was a gray hair, and I knew the pie
would be good. It was. We had only one nursing home pie,
i.e. no taste, no texture. Another group had an avocado cream
pie. I had to sneak a taste of it. Yes, it was green,
and yes, it tasted like avocados. In all my four years of
judging, I have learned two things--avocados and poppyseeds don't
belong in pies, and check for hair before you eat.
Organizer Estalee Bullis, (we call her Pie Goddess),
does an amazing job with this event. She has steadily
increased participation, and has raised over $100,000 for college
scholarships for local kids. She's an amazing woman, and her
husband, Richard, always bakes a pie for the contest.
Put this event on your calendar for next year.
It's a great one. --Hugh

| Drive In
Movie |
Drake Hiller sends in the following
report:
This might be something the Club
would want to do. A new drive -in theatre is being built out
on 2920 about 3 miles west of Tomball towards Waller. See the
info at www.theshowboatdrivein.com.
We might want to watch this website to see when it opens and
show up for the grand opening. It might be fun to do and the
mosquitoes probably will be gone by then.
