| A Message from the
President |
The Cruise to Nacogdoches was great. The Big D Club put
on a good event. Bill & Margie, John & Emily, Vic
& Jimmie, and Bill & Sharon represented the CTOH club.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the annual Bluebonnet
Cruise this weekend - plan to attend Saturday, Sunday or, like
me, for both days.
May you have
fair winds and following seas (or at least keep her between the
ditches)

| Big
D East Texas Weekend |
Nacogdoches
Weekend
Members from our club who took advantage of a
picture perfect weekend and joined up with the Big D Little Birds
for a fun filled weekend in Nacogdoches were Victor & Jimmie
Pekar, Bill & Sharon McBride, John & Emily Karsten, Bill
& Margie Perry.
There were about 50 classic T-Birds perched at
the Fredonia Hotel in the middle of town for the weekend activities
on March 11-12, 2005. The Hospitality Room was opened at 3:30
on Friday and as usual good talk and interesting stores were enjoyed
by all, not to mention the many snack foods and drinks provided by
the Dallas club. Our personal thanks were given to Geraldine
Nuckels who worked hard organizing the entire weekend for this
year’s new location.
About half the group left early Saturday morning
for Rusk to ride the Texas State Railroad. That was an all day
outing that seemed to be enjoyed by everyone who participated.
Others stayed around to go on a guided walking tour of the town and
then later to shop, while some played golf. At mid day many of
us T-Birders drove across town to visited Millard’s Crossing on a
scheduled tour of a historical village consisting of 17 old
structures. We had a fantastic lady tour guide who started out
by educating us with her “show and tell” of antique items and told
us about the rigid traditions of days gone by. As we assembled
in the little white Church she demonstrated the physical efforts
used in playing a pipe organ. Later we moved on to the old log
cabin Schoolhouse where each of the ladies were given bonnets to
wear and the men were given straw hats. Our guide/teacher
conducted a class with her switch in hand and we all participated in
her class by writing a short note with an ink filled quill.
Bill Perry was reprimanded for using a bad word in his story.
We were then on our own to tour the other homes that were available
to view.
Saturday evening 80 T-Birders met for a group
dinner in the Fredonia Hotel. After our meal a brief meeting
was held to report on different outings done during the day and then
the presidents from each of the T-Bird clubs were asked to say what
their clubs were doing for upcoming events this year. Bill
McBride spoke for CTOH.
The weekend was quickly coming to and end and
most of the good-byes were said as we visited in the Hospitality
room that evening which remained opened to near midnight.
Sunday morning found many T-Birders eating
breakfast at the Hotel before starting their journeys back
home. It was at Sunday breakfast that Bill and I found out
that a 5x7 colored picture of our 57 T-Bird made the front page of
the Nacogdoches newspaper as we were entering Millard’s
Crossing. What a pleasant surprise!
With an ending note I hope more of our CTOH
members will plan to go visit Nacogdoches next spring and enjoy a
beautiful weekend in the oldest town in Texas.

| April Meeting |
The April meeting will be held on
Sunday, April 17, 2005, on the side of the road during the
Bluebonnet Cruise to (and from) Ennis.
|
| |
| March Meeting |
The March meeting was held on
Sunday, March 20, 2005, at the Potatoe Patch Restaurant. We
had a nice crowd show up, stuff ourselves on the good food and
rolls, and then we headed over to the Mercer Arboretum. What a
beautiful place that is, and it's a county park,
too. |

| Bluebonnet Cruise to Ennis |
Saturday, April 16. We will meet in the
Wal-Mart parking lot on Cypress-Rosehill Rd near the gas pumps. To
get there, proceed out US 290 to the Spring-Cypress/Cypress-Rosehill
exit. Take the feeder road across Spring Cypress to the next
intersection, which will be Cypress-Rosehill. Wal-Mart will be
on the right just before the intersection of the feeder and
Cypress-Rosehill, and the gas pumps are at the far end of the
parking lot. Since it is a long trip, everyone should be there early
enough, so they can gas up if they wish, and we can depart no later
than 8:30. For your information, we will be using back roads up to
Huntsville on Hwy 30. If you would like to cut out the back
tracking, and meet us at Huntsville, I would suggest that you get
off the freeway at the airport exit and meet us at the truck
stop.
We'll spend the afternoon at their street market
(arts, crafts, food booths) and/or tour 2 historic homes. During
this time we can pick up maps of the bluebonnet trail and have them
marked for the best areas of the flowers. Sunday morning we'll
head out on the trail. After we are through, we can stop for lunch
somewhere then drive back to Houston. I have reserved 10 no smoking
rooms at the Ennis Inn, 207 S. I-45, 972-875-9656; 5 rooms are
kings, $48 plus tax/night and 5 doubles at $54 plus tax/night .
Reservations are held in the name of Classic Thunderbirds of
Houston; should there be a problem, mention my name. If someone
needs to cancel, the motel requires 24 hours before. If we need more
rooms, I would need to know right away, so I could add on. If anyone
has questions, call me at 281-373-0700. Louise & Cleo
Bickford
Bluebonnet Cruise information: Ennis is
located on I-45 North, about 180 miles north of the Sam Houston
Tollway.

| The Bright Light on Mallard
Lake |
|
My interest in Lighthouses became a
passion about 7 years ago and I began planning our vacations around
visiting lighthouses whenever possible.
On October 2, 2004 our lake house in
West Columbia was the setting for a gathering of friends and
neighbors of Mallard Lake subdivision to celebrate the dedication of
Margie’s own personal lighthouse. It is the first of its kind
to stand on the banks of Mallard Lake, and everyone has expressed
how the lighthouse has added such a unique attraction as it stands
in its perfect setting. At night the little beacon light that
revolves on top is really cool.
I have Hugh Jackson to thank for me
finding my Lighthouse because it was purchased when he guided us
T-Birders across the US to get to Michigan back in June 2003 for
Fords 100 year celebration. It was on our return trip as we traveled
through the state of Indiana that I found this Lighthouse at one of
our stops in the Amish country.
Now, I have a story to tell you
about that shopping stop. Hugh had mentioned numerous times
during the trip that if any of us ladies needed help in hauling any
merchandise he could accommodate us because he had lots of room in
his T-Bird since he was traveling alone. So, I did ask Hugh
about hauling this 10 foot lighthouse in his Bird, and even though
he agreed it would have been a real eye catcher for our T-Bird
caravan to be escorted across country like that, he said there were
limits to how much he could haul. So we had to go with plan B
and made arrangements for the Amish folks to send the lighthouse to
us by UPS. Not quiet as exciting, huh?
It has taken a while to get
everything done to get this lighthouse standing on her own,
but Bill worked hard building the platform over the water and
when I decided that I wanted my lighthouse painted red and white it
was no time and that project was underway and finished. With
the help of neighbors Bill got the Lighthouse set up and the
dedication was held a week before I was scheduled to have my knee
replacement surgery.
It was nice recuperating from
surgery at the lake and from the house or deck the Lighthouse is
always in view. Oh, and I have to mention how beautiful it
looked covered with 12” of snow on Christmas Day. That sight
will probably never happen again!
If any of you are out cruising in
your T-Birds and are in the area around West Columbia, please feel
free to stop by our lake house for a visit and to see Margie’s
Lighthouse named Perry’s Point #26.

Some "senior"
personal ads seen in Florida newspapers...Who says seniors don't
have a sense of humor?
FOXY LADY: Sexy, fashion-conscious blue-haired
beauty, 80's, slim, 5'4" (used to be 5'6"), searching for
sharp-looking, sharp-dressing companion. Matching white shoes and
belt a plus.
LONG-TERM COMMITMENT: Recent widow who has just
buried fourth husband, and am looking for someone to round out a
six-unit plot. Dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath not a
problem.
SERENITY NOW: I am into solitude, long walks,
sunrises, the ocean, yoga and meditation. If you are the silent
type, let's get together, take our hearing aids out and enjoy quiet
times.
WINNING SMILE: Active grandmother with original
teeth seeking a dedicated flosser to share rare steaks, corn on the
cob and caramel candy.
BEATLES OR STONES? I still like to rock, still like
to cruise in my Camaro on Saturday nights and still like to play the
guitar. If you were a groovy chick, or are now a groovy hen, let's
get together and listen to my eight-track tapes.
MEMORIES: I can usually remember Monday through
Thursday. If you can remember Friday, Saturday and Sunday, let's put
our two heads together.
MINT CONDITION: Male, 1932, high mileage, good
condition, some hair, many new parts including hip, knee, cornea,
valves. Isn't in running condition, but walks
well. | |
