Volume 12, Issue 4

Now we know why Bob has been a little slow in getting his new 55 on the road.

In this month's issue:

Happy Tax Day

A Message from the President
First my wishes for a speedy recovery to Dave Barnes, who recently underwent surgery, and to my knowledge is still in the hospital recovering.

Hopefully, you have all dusted off the pollen from your cars and are ready for a tour of this years crop of wild flowers.  I am sure that Cleo and Louise have a great route planned for us this year.   Everyone keep your fingers crossed as to the weather.  Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

Keep drivin'
Marc

April Meeting
This month we will meet at the La Hacienda Restaurant.  It's at 12503 Telge Rd.  Go Northwest on 290 to Telge Rd.  Exit 290 and turn right on Telge.  Go approximately 3/4 of a mile, and the restaurant is located on the left side of the Telge Road.  Their phone number is 281-373-0300.  As usual, we will eat at 1pm, and meet at 2pm.  The date?  As usual, the third Sunday of the month, April 18, 2004.  Hope to see you there.

March Meeting

The March meeting was held at Goode Company BBQ.  The food is always good there, and we had a nice turnout.  Marc reported on the LaGrange fly-in that several members of the club attended.  It seemed like there was lots of fun had, and it's an event that we shall attend again.  Larry Hicks gave us a report on the Salado trip that he and the Perry's attended.  The Big D club always does a nice job on this event.  Cleo & Louise Bickford teased us with a few details of the Bluebonnet Cruise, set for April 10.  Next year, we may make an overnight trip of the Cruise, and attend the Ennis Bluebonnet Trail.  The 50/50 pot was won by Geary Ashby.  The rest of us were mad...

Bluebonnet Cruise 2004
All I can say is--we had a great time.  The weather, although threatening rain, was overcast and cool.  I didn't even get a sunburn!  Cleo & Louise Bickford always do an outstanding job of picking a route for us that has lots of interesting sights.  This year was no different.  Marc & Mimi, Betty Morris, and I met the Bickfords at the Brookshire Truck stop.  We headed up 359 to Hempstead, where we hooked up with Bill & Sharon McBride, Dennis Baetz, and Bob Vickers.  From there, we took off toward Brenham, stopped for some photo opportunities, and then hit the back roads.  There are some beautiful places in Washington County.  We had lunch at Purcells in Brenham--all you can eat for about $9--and it was GOOOOOD.  After lunch, we headed home.  It was a fun time, and we thank the Bickfords for all their hard work.

Apparently, Bob Vickers can only drive yellow cars ON the road.

Moulton Days Jamboree
Hi, folks.  The Moulton Days Jamboree is coming up at the end of July, the last full weekend as a mater of fact. I’m inviting the club to be in the parade as we are taking the PIE contest Judges as we have done in the past. We are one of the first in the parade and drop the judges off where they do they’re hard work of tasting all THAT pie. Hugh Jackson knows as he is a Judge. The contest raised over $16,000.00 last year for scholarships.

I would like for you all to make plans to come out on Saturday morning to the Vickers' home as they have offered there fine country place close to Hallettsville to have a Bar-B-Q and a day of fun and kicking tires and some country roads to drive. I’m sure we can find something to do for that good ole Saturday night, maybe the drive inn move. For a place to sleep I’m checking the no-tell motels around Hallettsville area where Bob and Alice live. It will be on July 24 & 25. The parade is on Sunday at 11:00 AM.  So if you’re interested at this early date let me know.  dbaetz@gvec.net   or 361-596-4657.  For more information, see www.moultontexas.com.  See Ya Dennis & Duckie

Hallettsville Kolache Festival
LOOKIN' for something to do in September?  The third Saturday in September (the 18th) is the KOLACHEFEST in Hallettsville.  There will be a parade, car show, and a lot of country doins. You may also do the drive-in movie located between Hallettsville & Shiner.  Let me know if you would like to do this and I will make the arrangements.  Alice and I can accommodate 4 couples or singles and the rest can pitch tents, stay in motels or whatever.  Just let me know what you would like to do. Bob Vickers

Tail Lights
Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful doctors and lawyers and prospered. Some years later, they chatted after having dinner together. They discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother who lived far away in another city.

The first said "I had a big house built for Mama."

The second said "I had a hundred thousand dollar theater built in the house."

The third said "I had my Mercedes dealer deliver an SL600 to her. "

The fourth said "You know how Mama loved reading the Bible and you know she can't read anymore because she can't see very well. I met this preacher who told me about a parrot that can recite the entire Bible. It took twenty preachers 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to contribute $100,000 a year for twenty years to the church, but it was worth it. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it."

The other brothers were impressed.

After the holidays Mom sent out her Thank You notes.

She wrote:

"Milton, the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.  Thanks anyway.

"Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home, I have my groceries delivered, so I never use the Mercedes. The thought was good.  Thanks.

"Michael, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound, it could hold 50 people, but all my friends are dead, I've lost my hearing and I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture just the same.

"Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a little thought to your gift.  The chicken was delicious. Thank you.
