Here is Bob Vicker's new solution to

funniest reply in an email assault that said something about the top

| A Message from the
President |
Our February
meeting was held in The Woodlands at Rico’s Mexican Restaurant –
those that made the long trek north enjoyed a good meal and the
camaraderie of fellow Tbirders. Spring is here and its top
down time. I will be doing my annual maintenance – changing
oil, grease job, tune-up, topping off fluids, replacing screws, nuts
and bolts that have rattled off during the past year plus wash and
wax to get her ready for cruising. Texas Hill
Country/Bluebonnet Cruise will be held April 21 - 23 in
Fredericksburg. Again this year, Louise and Cleo Bickford are
coordinating the activities. The event will be held in
conjunction with the Texas Hill Country Cruise being sponsored by
the Metroplex Early Birds. At last check, nine of the ten
rooms reserved for CTOH members at the Deluxe Host Budget Inn in
Fredericksburg in the name of Louise Bickford had been spoken for –
call soon to reserve a room before they are all taken. April 21 – 23
will be a busy weekend in Fredericksburg – check this website for
other happenings. http://www.fredericksburg-texas.com/visitor/index.asp Hope to see you all at our March 19
meeting.
May you have fair winds and following seas,
Diesel

| February
Meeting |
The February meeting was held on Sunday, February
19, 2006. We were supposed to meet at Benton's Cuisine
Restaurant in The Woodlands, but they were closed. Luckily for
us, there was Ricos right next door, and the food was very
good. Oh yeah, the meeting was ok, too.
The meeting was held at Rico’s Mexican Restaurant in
The Woodlands. The January minutes were discussed briefly, as
they appeared in the Hood Scoop. We now have 34 paid up
members according to Wyndham Smith. The treasury currently has
about $5000.00. There is still an outstanding bill owed by the
Big Bird Club. We need to reimburse Jerry Estes for the
holiday party since he paid with his credit card.
The board reinstated the wearing of name badges.
Members will be fined $1.00 if club name badges are not worn during
meetings and other activities beginning in April. All new
members will be presented name badges upon payment of dues.
Members who have lost badges can contact Wyndham Smith for
replacement. We have a couple of new members who have paid
dues but did not leave their names with Wyndham.
Hugh and Wyndham will compile a new up to date
roster of members.
There was a short discussion about birthday and
anniversary notices.
NEW BUSINESS
Some discussion on board meeting minutes.
Jeff Skiba was authorized $150.00 to update
website. Betty Morris is looking into a visit to the Forbidden
Gardens on Grand Parkway, for our May 21st club meeting. Hugh
Jackson is still looking for someone to take over editing the Hood
Scoop. Geary Ashby won the 50/50.
Respectfully submitted,
Al Eisenberg, Recording Secretary
Attendance: Bill & Sharon McBride; Russ
Yockum & Genie Pool; Larry Hicks; Betty Morris; Hugh Jackson;
Nancy & Wyndham Smith; Stephen Rubin; Al Eisenberg; and Cleo
& Louise Bickford. |

| SEMA News |
SEMA is
the Specialty Equipment Market Association, and is a car-industry
watch-dog group.
In a significant victory for Virginia hobbyists, legislation that
threatened to restrict pleasure driving of antique motor vehicles
was withdrawn by the bill's sponsor. The bill (H.B. 288) sought to
limit the range of driving to no more than 50 miles from the owner's
residence. Under current Virginia law, vehicles registered as
antiques are strictly limited to club activities, exhibitions, tours
and parades and to test operation, obtain repairs or maintenance and
pleasure driving up to 250 miles from the owner's residence.
"This bill would have denied Virginia citizens the
opportunity to enjoy the occasional long-range pleasure drive in
their antique vehicles," said SEMA Vice President of Government
Affairs Steve McDonald. "The legislation disregarded the
immeasurable time, money and thought automotive hobbyists,
especially antique vehicle owners, invest in their
cars."
While the bill sought to clarify that antique vehicles
may not be used for work-related travel, supporters of the measure
also considered including antique cars in the state's mandatory
annual safety inspection program, claiming that many are unsafe
junkers. In a message to the SAN, the sponsor of the bill said, "I
am not trying to hurt the person who has a 1968 Dodge Hemi Cuda, but
the person who has a 25+ year old Dodge Dart that the brakes do not
work. We will work to make this happen. The bill is off the docket
for this year."
Due to the tremendous response by those
opposing the bill, the sponsors have agreed to work with the SAN and
the various car clubs and councils in Virginia to address their
concerns before similar legislation in the future.
"It all
worked like a well oiled machine," said Tom Cox, AACA eastern
chairman of legislative affairs and president of the Southwest
Virginia Car Council. "Within hours of receiving the alert from the
SAN, Virginia hobbyists from all facets of the hobby were
participating in the democratic process with a unified voice. I n
conjunction with the SAN and the other clubs and car councils, we
were able to derail the bill this year."
"Having your club,
or even you as an individual, join the SAN is a win-win situation.
It's fun, informative and furthers the point that there is strength
in numbers," added Cox. |

| Thanks to
Edith Williamson for the following submission:
A man in a convertible T-Bird was riding along a California beach
when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming
voice, the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me
in all ways, I will grant you one wish"
The man pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can
drive in this convertible over anytime I want."
The Lord said, "Your request is materialistic. Think of the
enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports
required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel
it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I
can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly
things. Take a little more time and think of something that would
honor and glorify me."
The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord,
I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels
inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment,
why she cries, what she means when she says nothing is wrong, and
how I can make a woman truly happy."
The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that
bridge?" | |
