| February Meeting |
The February meeting was held on
Sunday, February 20, 2005, at Goode Company BBQ. As always,
the food was terrific. We had a nice turnout, and the meeting
went well. No one was asked to leave, so that's always a good
thing! |

| March Meeting |
The March meeting will be held on Sunday, March
20, 2005, at the Potatoe Patch Restaurant, located at 2504 FM 1960
East. If you get lost, their phone number is
281-443-3530. They are 2 miles east of I-45 North, just east
of the Hardy Toll Road. (It's 7 miles west of Hwy 59 North, if
you can from that direction.) From downtown Houston, come out
I-45 toward Dallas, exit at 1960 and turn right. Travel 2
miles, and the Potatoe Patch is on the right. We'll have
reserved parking spaces, a private room, and really good food.
They have throwed rolls with strawberry preserves, pass-around fried
okra, and daily specials. We have the room reserved beginning
at 12:30p. Try to be there no later than 1:00pm. Weather
permitting, we will leave there around 2:00pm and head over to the
Mercer Arboretum at 22306 Aldine Westfield, just about 1 mile from
the Patch.. We'll hold our meeting outside at the
Arboretum After the meeting adjourns, you will have time
to walk through the arboretum and look at the beautiful
grounds. If the weather is bad, the beautiful grounds will be
unnoticed, as we will stay at the Potatoe Patch. If you want
to get a sneak preview of Mercer, click > http://www.hcp4.net/mercer/index.htm

Saturday, April 16. We will leave early Sat.
morning (meeting place to be determined) and drive to Ennis. Spend
the afternoon at their street market (arts, crafts, food booths)
and/or tour 2 historic homes. During this time we can pick up maps
of the bluebonnet trail and have them marked for the best areas of
the flowers. Sunday morning we'll head out on the trail. After
we are through, we can stop for lunch somewhere then drive back to
Houston. I have reserved 10 no smoking rooms at the Ennis Inn, 207
S. I-45, 972-875-9656; 5 rooms are kings, $48 plus tax/night and 5
doubles at $54 plus tax/night . Reservations are held in the name of
Classic Thunderbirds of Houston; should there be a problem, mention
my name. If someone needs to cancel, the motel requires 24 hours
before. If we need more rooms, I would need to know right away, so I
could add on. If anyone has questions, call me at 281-373-0700.
Louise Bickford

| Thunderbird Dies Again |
From Blue Oval News
Ford Thunderbird
Discontinued
10 March 2005. 2:35pm, est. Dearborn, Michigan.
Ford Motor Company will put the legendary Thunderbird
nameplate back into the company's future-product vault after this
model year, the company confirmed today with
employees.
Production of the current generation vehicle will
end in July at the company's Wixom Assembly Plant in Wixom, Mich.
Since the launch of the roadster as a 2002 model, more than 55,000
Thunderbirds have been sold.
"We promised all along that this
Thunderbird would have a limited production run, and we're being
true to our word," explains Steve Lyons, Ford Division president.
"Thunderbird was a terrific image builder for the Ford brand
showroom at a time when we needed it. Now, we're in the midst of a
major product onslaught, including more news on the Mustang at this
month's New York Auto Show."
A Storied History
Ford
Thunderbird first went on sale Oct. 22, 1954, marking the birth of a
new legend that would grow with each generation. During five
decades, Thunderbird went through several design changes with
coupes, sedans, convertibles, hardtops, mid-size and large-size
configurations. It went on hiatus after the 1997 model year.
Thunderbird returned in 2001 as a retro-styled roadster to serve a
similar role to its 1955 forebear - create excitement for the Ford
brand.
This year, Ford Thunderbird celebrates its golden
anniversary with a 50th anniversary limited-edition 2005 model. As
the anniversary coincides with the end of the current generation,
the special-edition models are expected to become collector's items.
"There's a place for a dream car in any car company," says
Lyons. "At Ford, we're fortunate to have several dream cars,
including the new Ford GT and Ford Mustang. For now, the Thunderbird
nameplate will be placed on our shelf. But we'll keep it polished
for future use."
The Wixom Assembly Plant will continue to
produce the Lincoln LS and Town Car and remain the final assembly
point for the Ford GT supercar.
The 2005-model year
Thunderbird is to be the last of the current generation.
Production of the roadster at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant will end
in July. Wixom Assembly Plant will continue to produce the
Lincoln LS and Town Car and be the final assembly point for the Ford
GT supercar.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ford to halt Thunderbird production With
sales falling, the roadster that returned with '02 model will
again go on hiatus after July. March 11, 2005: 3:00 PM EST
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Ford plans to again stop
production of its Thunderbird sports car after the current
model year ends production in July.
The company has sold more than 55,000 of the
roadsters since it brought the storied car back into
production with the 2002 model following a three-year gap in
production. But sales have been slipping since its
reintroduction resulted in sales of 19,085 in 2002.
Sales for the last six months, roughly in line
with the roll out of the 2005 models, were 4,522, according to
sales tracker Autodata, a drop of 33.7 percent from the same
six-month period a year earlier.
The two-seater model brought back in 2002 was
always seen as somewhat of a niche vehicle. But despite some
good reviews for the reintroduction, even the best sales of
the new model were seen as somewhat of a disappointment for
Ford.
Ford said this is not the end of the line for
its famous nameplate. Instead, its release referred to the
decision as putting the name back in its "future-product
vault."
"We promised all along that this Thunderbird
would have a limited production run, and we're being true to
our word," said Steve Lyons, Ford Division president.
"Thunderbird was a terrific image builder for the Ford brand
showroom at a time when we needed it."
Ford will now concentrate on its new Mustang
sports car, which had its convertible version unveiled at the
Los Angeles Auto Show in January.
The first Thunderbird went on sale Oct. 22,
1954, and during the last five decades it has gone through
several design changes with coupes, sedans, convertibles,
hardtops and even large-size configurations. The first
four-seat version of the Thunderbird came out in
1958. | |
One day a
florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he
asked about his bill and the barber replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot
accept money from you; I'm doing community service this
week." The florist is pleased and leaves the shop. Next
morning when the barber goes to open, there is a thank you card and
a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop
comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the
barber again replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot accept money; I'm
doing community service this week." The cop is happy and
leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber goes to open up there
is a thank you card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Later a Republican comes in for a haircut, and when he goes
to pay his bill the barber again replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot
accept money from you; I'm doing community service this
week." The Republican is very happy and leaves the shop. Next
morning when the barber goes to open, there is a thank you card and
a dozen different books such as "How to improve your business and
becoming more successful".
Then a Democrat comes in for a
haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again
replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing
community service this week." The Democrat is very happy and
leaves the shop. The next morning when the barber goes to open up,
there are a dozen Democrats lined up waiting for a free haircut.
