Well folks for those of you who did not take the cruise to
Lagrange you missed a good one. The weather was perfect for
top down driving (at least on the way home) and eating. Bill
and Sharon McBride, Bill Perry, Jerry Estes and Mimi and I took the
journey west. Many thanks to Lance for inviting us to this
event.
Upon arrival at the airport we engaged in the clubs favorite
activity, competitive eating. A great deal of barbeque was
consumed and then we had an opportunity to walk amongst many of the
planes that come monthly for the fly in. The equivalent to our
monthly meeting, with the food and without the meeting for airplane
owners. There were more than 50 planes that I counted, from
ultra lights to a King Air. I'm not sure but I think Bill Perry was
negotiating for the purchase of the King Air.
The weekend of March 13-14 was the Salado Trip, which I am
looking forward to hearing about. If anyone is going please
try to make it to the meeting on the 21st and share the
event.
Keep drivin'

February
Meeting
The February
meeting was held at the Cruzn Cafe in Spring. It was somewhat
of a challenge to find, but once there, the food was
wonderful. When I arrived, there were corvettes all over the
place. I was afraid (and hopeful) that we had another Hooters
Happening, which provided much fodder for your trusty newsletter
editor several years ago. But, it was not to be.
Apparently, the local corvettes had heard of our visit, and came out
to see what real cars look like.
March Meeting
The March meeting will be held at Goode Company BBQ at 8911 Katy
Freeway, on the third Sunday of the month, which is Sunday, March
21, 2004. It will be at the regular time--we eat at 1pm, we
meet at 2pm. Their phone number is 713-464-1901. If you
are inbound on the Katy Freeway, exit Voss, and the restaurant will
be on the right of the inbound feeder road. If you are
outbound, exit Campbell, u-turn a the light, and find something
Goode on your right. The red star marks the location on this
map.

Moulton Days
Jamboree
Hi,
folks. The Moulton Days Jamboree is coming up at the end of
July, the last full weekend as a mater of fact. I’m inviting the
club to be in the parade as we are taking the PIE contest Judges as
we have done in the past. We are one of the first in the parade and
drop the judges off where they do they’re hard work of tasting all
THAT pie. Hugh Jackson knows as he is a Judge. The
contest raised over $16,000.00 last year for scholarships.
I would like for you
all to make plans to come out on Saturday morning to the Vickers'
home as they have offered there fine country place close to
Hallettsville to have a Bar-B-Q and a day of fun and kicking tires
and some country roads to drive. I’m sure we can find something to
do for that good ole Saturday night, maybe the drive inn move. For a
place to sleep I’m checking the no-tell motels around Hallettsville
area where Bob and Alice live. It will be on July 24 & 25. The
parade is on Sunday at 11:00 AM. So if you’re
interested at this early date let me know. dbaetz@gvec.net or
361-596-4657. For more information, see www.moultontexas.com.

Hallettsville Kolache
Festival
LOOKIN' for something to do in September? The third
Saturday in September (the 18th) is the KOLACHEFEST in
Hallettsville. There will be a parade, car show, and a lot of
country doins. You may also do the drive-in movie located between
Hallettsville & Shiner. Let me know if you would like to
do this and I will make the arrangements. Alice and I can
accommodate 4 couples or singles and the rest can pitch tents, stay
in motels or whatever. Just let me know what you would like to
do. Bob Vickers
Alice was to bake a cake for the church ladies'
group bake sale, but she forgot to do it until the last minute. She
baked an angel food cake, and when she took it out of the oven, the
center had dropped flat. She said, "Oh dear, there is no time to
bake another cake." So, so she looked around the house for something
to build up the center of the cake. Alice found it in the bathroom,
a roll of toilet paper. She plunked it in and covered it with icing.
The finished product looked beautiful, so she rushed it to the
church.
Alice then gave her daughter some money and instructions to be at
the sale the minute it opened and to buy that cake and bring it
home. When the daughter arrived at the sale, the attractive cake had
already been sold. Alice was beside herself.
A couple of days later Alice was invited to a friend's home where
two tables of bridge were to be played that afternoon. After the
game a fancy lunch was served, and to top it off, the cake in
question was presented for dessert.
Alice saw the cake, she started to get off her chair to rush into
the kitchen to tell her hostess all about it, but before she could
get to her feet, one of the other ladies said, "What a beautiful
cake!"
Alice sat back in her chair when she heard the hostess say,
"Thank you, I baked it myself."
